About the AuthorXu Xi is author of nine books of fiction and essays. Her four novels are Habit of a Foreign Sky (2010), The Unwalled City (2001), Hong Kong Rose (1997) and Chinese Walls (1994), two fiction collections, History's Fiction (2001) and Daughters of Hui (1996), and two essay/fiction collections, Evanescent Isles: From My City Village (2008) and Overleaf Hong Kong: Stories and Essays of the Chinese, Overseas (2006). A new fiction collection Access: Thirteen Tales will be released in 201112. She also edited three anthologies of Hong Kong literature in English, FiftyFifty (2008 new writing), City Stage (2005 drama) and City Voices (2003 prose & poetry 1945 to the present) and is the Hong Kong regional editor for the 2nd edition of Routledges Encyclopedia of Post Colonial Literature. Her fiction and essays have been published and broadcast internationally, and her books are regularly taught at universities worldwide. Awards include an O. Henry prize story, a Ploughshares Cohen award for best story, a New York Arts Foundation fiction fellowship, a winning entry in the South China Morning Post story contest; residencies include the Jack Kerouac Project, the Anderson Center, Kulturhuset USF; the Chateau de Lavigny. A ChineseIndonesian native of Hong Kong, she left multinational corporate life for the writing life after eighteen years in international marketing and management.
