Bchners Lustspiel "Leonce und Lena" (1836) ist ein enigmatisches Gebilde, voller Lcken und harten Fgungen, elliptisch und verschlossen. Das Drama geht scheinbar in keiner Interpretation auf, sondern erffnet eine Vielfalt von Interpretationsmglichkeiten. Offensichtlich ist der Text sowohl als Ganzes als auch in seinen einzelnen Elementen absichtlich auf keine eindeutige Aussage, sondern auf Mehrdeutigkeiten und Polyvalenzen hin konstruiert worden. Im Bewusstsein dieser vielfltigen interpretatorischen Schwierigkeiten bemht sich die vorliegende Arbeit um eine Annherung an den enigmatischen Charakter des Werks und seine Ursachen. Sie konzentriert sich dabei weitgehend auf den Text selbst sowie seine vielschichtigen Bedeutungen. In Aufbau und Gedankenfhrung folgt die Studie dabei einer ganz spezifischen Bewegungsfigur. Sie setzt an mit berlegungen und Deutungen zur Dramatis personae, versucht anschlieend die einzelnen Charaktere zu kontextualisieren bzw. sie unter dem Blickwinkel (hof)gesellschaftlicher Normierungen neu zu betrachten und widmet sich schlielich in einem dritten Komplex verschiedenen sthetischen Phnomenen und ihren Bedeutungsdimensionen.
