Deutsche Schferhunde, von einer litauischen Wlfin als Urahnin bis zu Hitlers Lieblingshund, die Mdchen Tulla und Jenny und ein Reigen von Vogelscheuchen begleiten sie auf ihrer Odyssee von Danzig nach Westdeutschland, bis hinab in die Unterwelt. Der Roman endet in einem Bergwerk, in dem der Knstler Amsel alias Brauchsel seine weltweit begehrten Vogelscheuchen industriell herstellt und so die reale Welt als Unterwelt entlarvt: Der Orkus ist oben und die Vogelscheuche ist nach dem Bilde des Menschen geschaffen.
