Die Haufigkeit nosokomialer, d. h. krankenhauserworbener Infektionen hat in den letzten Jahren standig zugenommen. Das bedeutet nicht, daB das Klinikpersonal hygienisch nachiassiger geworden ist, sondern daB unsere Patienten vor allem auf Intensivstationen, immer infektionsanfal liger werden und die Eingriffe, die wir bei ihnen vornehmen miissen, urn deren Oberleben zu ermoglichen, eine immer groBere Infektionsgefiihr dung mit sich bringen. Gleichzeitig muBten wir in den letzten J ahren akzeptieren, daB verschiedene, z. T. sehr aufwendige und teure MaB nahmen (z. B. Umbauten, Schleusen, Raumdesinfektionen in regelma Bigen Abstanden) nicht den Erfolg brachten, den wir gewiinscht hatten, namlich eine Senkung der Infektionsrate. Andere MaBnahmen, wie z. B. Handewaschen und Handedesinfektionen, sorgfiiltige pflegerische Techniken, Desinfektion von Instrumenten und Beatmungszubehor, Sterilisation, spielen in der Infektionskontrolle eine weit wichtigere Rolle. 1m vorliegenden Buch haben wir neben der zuletztgenannten Methode der Isolierung von infizierten Patienten einen relativ groBen Raum zuge messen, da diese MaBnahme die Infektionsgefahrdung nachweislich sen ken kann, auch wenn viele der erwahnten Erkrankungen auf Intensiv stationen nur selten vorkommen. Nicht geauBert haben wir uns zu Anti biotika, obwohl ohne Einschrankung des Antibiotikagebrauchs, insbe sondere fiir ungezielte Prophylaxe, Infektionskontrolle liickenhaft ist. Dieses Thema haben wir in einem anderen Buch ausfiihrlich behandelt. Wir mochten die Leser dieses Buches bitten, uns Hinweise zu geben, an welcher Stelle wir Erganzungen oder Verbesserungen anbringen konn ten, damit wir moglichst praxisnahe bleiben und die Neuauflage entspre chend aktualisieren konnen.'
