Icons of Life tells the engrossing and provocative story of an early twentiethcentury undertaking, the Carnegie Institution of Washingtons project to collect thousands of embryos for scientific study. Lynn M. Morgan blends social analysis, sleuthing, and humor to trace the history of specimen collecting. This book is packed with fascinating information, but I did find some sections a bit dense and hard to follow. The historical context is rich, though, so if you stick with it, there's a lot to learn. Just be prepared to take your time with certain chapters.
