What are the appropriate criteria for assessing a theory of morality? In this enlightening work, Brad Hooker begins by answering this question. He then argues for a ruleconsequentialist theory which, in part, asserts that acts should be assessed morally in terms of impartially justified rules. In the end, he considers the implications of ruleconsequentialism for several current controversies in practical ethics, making this clearly written, engaging book the best overall statement of this approach to ethics.

I picked up A Rule Consequentialist Theory of Morality thinking it would be more of a basic overview, but it’s pretty dense. While it has some interesting points, I found myself lost at times. I think it’s better suited for those already familiar with moral philosophy rather than beginners like me.

A Solid Addition to My Library
I really enjoyed reading this book by Ideal Code! The insights into consequentialism were thought-provoking, and the examples helped clarify the concepts. I’ve already recommended it to a friend who is into ethics discussions. Definitely worth the read if you’re interested in morality.

Thought-Provoking Read on Morality
As a philosophy student, I found this book, A Rule Consequentialist Theory of Morality by Ideal Code, incredibly engaging. It dives deep into moral theories and really makes you question your perspectives. The arguments are well-structured and the writing is accessible, which is great for both scholars and casual readers alike.

Disappointed with the Content
I wanted to like A Rule Consequentialist Theory of Morality, but it didn’t live up to my expectations. The book arrived a bit dinged up, which was disappointing. It also felt repetitive in parts, not really adding new insights. I hoped for more depth.
