Las enfermedades de las plantas son una continua amenaza para los cultivos ya que ocasionan una reduccin en la produccin de estos y la calidad del producto, limitando la disponibilidad de materia prima en las actividades agrcolas. La enfermedad de la mancha foliar azul violeta es una enfermedad patognica muy importante que afecta al maz (Zea mays L.) y se presenta a partir del macollamiento, en la base del brote, las vainas foliares y mas tarde el tallo. Como enfermedad de las plntulas se puede reconocer a menudo por un micelio mohoso en la base del brote y en el tallo se presentan estras superficiales y oscuras que posteriormente se cubren de una capa rosada de esporas. En el presente trabajo de investigacin se determin que el agente primario causal de esta enfermedad es Fusarium graminearum Schwabe y se comprob su patogenicidad mediante los cuatro postulados de Kosch, en cinco variedades mejoradas de maz forrajero (UMCOPO, DUPLEX, UMSS V107, POOL12 y Cubano Amarillo), probando as la resistencia, tolerancia o susceptibilidad, de cada una de ellas a la enfermedad.
