El objetivo de cualquier disciplina es crear un marco conceptual y terico para analizar, evaluar y comprender un fenmeno. Pero este no es el fin ltimo, sino que la meta que perseguimos no es slo comprender sino aplicar estos conocimientos e incluso manipular ese fenmeno, si es posible, para mejorar nuestro entorno y a nosotros mismos, en definitiva para progresar. La traductologa no escapa a este afn, y quiere averiguar por qu y cmo se consigue tener xito en traduccin, en otras palabras, cmo conseguir ser mejores traductores y lograr formar mejores traductores. La autora plantea que el anlisis del proceso de traduccin desde una perspectiva cognitiva puede permitirnos, no slo ser mejor traductores, sino comprender el fenmeno de la traduccin. En este trabajo, se analiza en primer lugar ese proceso y se define tanto los problemas como las estrategias de traduccin dentro del marco de la psicologa cognitiva y, en segundo lugar, se estudia de forma emprica el proceso de resolucin de problemas de traduccin mediante una investigacin experimental que compara el comportamiento de los expertos y de los principiantes.
