Eine individuelle Identitt herauszubilden und einen eigenen Krper zu haben zhlen zu den Grundfesten menschlichen Seins. Mehr noch: Antworten auf die Identittsfrage "Wer bin ich?" sucht das (post)moderne Individuum gerade ber die Arbeit am eigenen Krper. Die Autorin geht der Frage nach, ob dieser offensichtlich engen Verbindung zwischen Identitt und Krper in sozial und kulturwissenschaftlichen Theorien Rechnung getragen wird. Dazu fhrt sie zunchst in die Krper/LeibDiskussion sowie in krpersoziologische und leibphilosophische Anstze ein. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden zentrale Identittstheorien daraufhin untersucht, ob sich Verbindungen zwischen diesen Theorien und Krper/LeibKonzeptionen aufzeigen lassen. Wie sich herausstellt, ist der Krper in den klassischen Identittstheorien eine mehr oder weniger vernachlssigte Kategorie. Einen Schwerpunkt bilden daher die postmodernen Theorien von Michel Foucault und Judith Butler, in denen Identitt und Krper in Abhngigkeit voneinander gedacht werden. Aus diesem theoretischen berblick ergeben sich schlielich Anregungen fr eine Diskussion der Frage, wieviel Krper/Leib Identitt in der (post)modernen Gesellschaft braucht.
