La investigacin plantea la caracterizacin a nivel histrico, iconogrfico y material de la Escuela Chilota de Imaginera Religiosa, propia del Archipilago de Chilo en la dcima Regin de Los Lagos de Chile, profundizando en el estudio de los materiales utilizados para su elaboracin y cooperando con ello, en la puesta en valor y difusin de este importante patrimonio. Este tipo de escultura en que se mezclan influencia espaola e imaginera autctona posee un alto valor cultural y tnico tanto por constituir una muestra singular de fusin de culturas, como por conformar una particular escuela de imaginera, con caractersticas propias y con importante valor aadido como patrimonio intangible ligado a creencias y costumbres de la comunidad. Esta escuela se mantuvo viva desde el siglo XVII hasta fines del siglo XIX.
