This book provides explanation of how harsh reality of depressed economic growth worldwide is hitting Kenya. Mrs. Kivuva, who is Senior Administrator at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, presents retrenchment as a painful exercise to those affected but has to be done. She agrees that institutions have no option due to the global financial and economic crisis. Many institutions are reacting to trying economic times by reorganizing administrative departments, redeploying personnel and terminating appointments (retrenchment) deemed important. Once these retrenchments happenings take place, service delivery in the institutions is affected either positively or negatively. She argues that like other institutions, universities are among the affected establishments. This book elucidates how the first phase of retrenchment at the University of Nairobi took place in the year 2000. This retrenchment targeted the lower cadre; however, there seem to be no reports indicating the impact of the process on the quality of service delivery by the remaining staff. This book is highly recommended for the scholars, students and researchers who are doing more on retrenchment research
