Implementation of Mother Tongue Education in Ethiopia is an MA thesis presented to Addis Ababa University as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts.... This research work could find out the acute shortage of reference and additional materials in Xamtanga language, though, there is no deficiency of textbooks . These textbooks are prepared in line with students' age and ability and integrate contents and examples which can well express the culture and history of the area under study....Dearth of institutional support to produce reading materials and cultivate the language, however, negatively affects the implementation of Xamtanga language as a medium of Instruction....The constructive attitude of students, teachers and parents is a great opportunity to the success of of using Xamtanga as a school language. Moreover, extra curricular activities in the sample schools were found encouraging in helping the implementation of Xamtanga as a Medium of Instruction and also are compelling evidences to move the success ahead.
