Con motivo de la celebracin en 2011 del Ao Internacional de la Qumica, los profesores de la asignatura Historia y Metodologa de la Qumica de la Universidad de Cdiz, editores de este libro, decidieron organizar el Concurso de Biografas Cientficas para alumnos de la Licenciatura en Qumica. Es por ello que, tras un riguroso proceso de evaluacin llevado a cabo por nueve profesores de la universidad, las biografas correspondientes a once cientficos de gran trascendencia para el desarrollo de la Qumica como Ciencia se dan cita en la presente obra: H. Planck (D. A. Cabo Palacios); M. Curie (B. Ramos Avils); G. Newton Lewis (L. A. Martnez Carrascosa); L. Meitner (L. Fuentes Porras); y R. Franklin (M. E. Linares Daz).
