1998, oversize, extralarge paperback edition, Abrams, NY. 83 illustrations, 39 plates in full color. This is another title from the Abrams imprint, one of the best art publishers in the world. Just when you think you've seen everything, a title like this one appears. The author is a collector of Indian clubs and folk art. These clubs, once a form of exercise equipment used by the entire family, are now a popular American folk art collectible. This is the first book written on the subject and includes a history of the club, from its beginnings in India, where it was part of the drills for the occupying British army. It actually had a vogue in America from the 1860's to approximately 1930. This title includes period advertisements, diagrams, posters, and photos. This is a huge, oversize title, with a lot of real pizzazz.
