Over the past two decades, urban areas have been the centre of attraction for many individuals, industries and many activities for diverse reasons. This high interest has put much pressure on urban land development especially in the area of housing. Inadequate attention to urban landuse planning and practices coupled with rapid urbanisation has resulted in the proliferation of informal settlements which is destroying the health, beauty and convenience of cities. This book examines the development of informal settlements in Kumasi, the second city of Ghana. It was discovered that multiplicity of factors underpins the growth of informal settlements in Kumasi with socioeconomic factors been predominant. The findings of this book is of great importance to town planning professionals, local governments, city authorities and all individuals into urban and regional studies because it will help them to become abreast with the emerging trend and dynamics of informal settlements in the context of Africa. In addition to this, it will also help to broaden one's knowledge to theoretically and empirically address the development of informal settlements in urban areas.
