In India, many institutions deal with documents in Indian languages apart from English language documents. This is especially true of Universities, where the presence of few Indian languages departments is common, along with a few foreign languages departments. In the past decade many Indian universities, research institutions and archival institutions have taken up digitization projects. Many of these projects involve the digitization of documents in various Indian languages. In such a scenario, users prefer search interface for these documents in their respective native languages. The present work is an attempt to demonstrate how information in Indian languages can be searched and retrieved using Telugu language as a case study. This would apply to digital information available in any kind of Information System, be it a digital library/archive, content management system, WebOPACs, online database, websites/portals.
