Dieses Buch entstand auf Anregung der Studenten, fUr die ich seit Jahren ein Kolloquium zur Examensvorbereitung abhalte. Dem Leser soli eine kompakte Darstellung der Inneren Medizin geboten werden, urn ihm die Wiederholung und Vertiefung des im Studium Erlernten zu erleichtern. Mein Bemiihen ging dahin, keine bloBe Faktensammlung zu erstellen, sondern einen didak tisch gegliederten Basistext, der Pathophysiologie und Klinik eng miteinander verbindet. Inhaltlich folgt das Buch der iiblichen Einteilung der Inneren Krankheiten. Ich habe mir allerdings die Freiheit genommen, das fUr die klinische Praxis Wichtige durch eine ausfUhrlichere Dar stellung besonders hervorzuheben. Eingehender wurden auch sol che Dinge behandelt, deren Verstiindnis erfahrungsgemiiB auf Schwierigkeiten stOBt. Hierzu gehort die Elektrokardiographie, die deshalb mit einer elementaren Kurzfassung Beriicksichtigung fand. Andererseits habe ich manche, vielleicht weniger wichtigen Details bewuBt fortgelassen, denn dieses Grundlagenbuch erhebt nicht den Anspruch, die einschliigigen Lehrbiicher zu ersetzen. Die Form des Buches wurde seiner Zielsetzung durch knappe Diktion und iibersichtliche Gliederung angepaBt. Urn dem Leser die Orientierung zu erleichtern, wurden die Dberschriften de( Unterabschnitte mit Pfeilmarkierung in die Randspalte gesetzt. Hier konnen sie bei der Repetition wie eine Frage aufgefaBt wer den. Die iiberdurchschnittliche Breite der Randspalte soli dem Leser die Moglichkeit zu ergiinzenden Notizen geben. DaB kom primierter Lehrstoff trotz solcher Hilfen eine anstrengende Lek tiire bleibt, liiBt sich allerdings nicht leugnen.'
