In dem vorliegenden Text wird die spezielle Perspektive der Marktprozesstheorie auf die Innovations und Imitationsforschung untersucht, die insbesondere durch Arbeiten Israel Kirzners geprgt wurde. Obwohl Imitation und Innovation hoch aktuelle und oft gebrauchte Schlagworte in der wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Literatur sind, konnte sich ein allgemein akzeptierter Begriff fr beide Kategorien bis in die spten 1990er Jahre kaum durchsetzen. Vielmehr existiert eine ausgeprgte Vielfalt von Innovations und Imitationsbegriffen. Vor allem Schumpeter hat als Begrnder der Innovationsforschung starken Einfluss auf die Begriffsdefinition genommen. Anders als die technologisch fokussierte Innovationsdefinition, die die Bedeutung von neukombinierten Produktionsfaktoren betont, fokussiert die Marktprozesstheorie auf das Marktverhalten der Individuen. Innovationen sind in Kirzners Perspektive Entdeckungen von neuem Wissen zur Verwertung ungenutzter Gewinngelegenheiten durch findige Unternehmer'. Grundlage ist individuelles Lernen aus vorausgegangenen Fehlentscheidungen. Konstitutionelle Unwissenheit sorgt dafr, dass Fehler und somit menschlicher Wissenserwerb nicht versiegen und immer wieder Koordinationslcken bestehen. Diese halten in Form von Preisunterschieden stets Gewinngelegenheiten bereit, die den Anreiz fr kontinuierliche Entdeckungen durch findige Unternehmer ausmachen. Diese Unternehmer lenken nach Ansicht der Vertreter der Marktprozesstheorie durch individuell verfolgtes Gewinnstreben und damit realisierte Anpassung von ursprnglich fehlgeschlagene
