Dieses Zitat wird gerne genutzt, wenn institutionelle Regelungen, die das Verhalten von Menschen steuern, gerechtfertigt werden sollen. Hlt es aber auch einer wissenschaftlichen Analyse stand? Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich dieser Frage und untersucht, welche Wirkungen bestimmte Institutionen auf vertrauensvolles Verhalten haben. Es soll analysiert werden, wie dieser institutionelle Einfluss gegebenenfalls auch die berzeugungen und Prferenzen von Menschen ndert, die Vertrauen motivieren. Dabei wird Vertrauen als ein zentrales Organisationsprinzip zwischenmenschlicher Interaktionen angesehen. Die Arbeit bezieht sich insbesondere auf Kontexte, die in der konomie von groer Bedeutung sind und unterzieht die konomische Sichtweise menschlichen Verhaltens mit Hilfe psychologischer Erkenntnisse einer kritischen Betrachtung. In diesem Zusammenhang wird Bezug genommen auf die in der Institutionenkonomie getroffenen ModellAnnahmen ber menschliche Verhaltensweisen, die auf Rationalitt und Eigennutz basieren. Institutionen sind ein zentrales Element der konomischen Theorie, sie bestimmen die "Spielregeln", indem sie Anreize setzen, das Verhalten der Akteure koordinieren und selektieren. Mit Hilfe der Sozialpsychologie knnen diese stark vereinfachten Annahmen przisiert werden. Neue Entwicklungen in der Verhaltenskonomie, die auf Erkenntnissen der Kognitiven und der Sozialpsychologie beruhen, weisen daraufhin, dass Institutionen noch weitere Funktionen haben sie gewhren Informationen ber ergebnisrelevante Ablufe, ermglichen Attributionsprozesse und beeinflussen die Prferenzen der Beteiligten. In Anbetracht des aufgefundenen Zusammenhangs zwischen dem intrinsisch motivierten Vertrauen der Individuen einer Gesellschaft, ihrem konomischen Wohlfahrtsniveau und der Existenz von Demokratie, scheint diese Untersuchung von besonderer Aktualitt.
