Der Band sammelt Beitrge aus einer Vortragsreihe zur Globalisierung in Afrika, die 1998/99 an der Universitt Bayreuth durchgefhrt wurde. Die Autoren sind berwiegend Kollegiaten und Hochschullehrer des interdisziplinren Graduiertenkollegs Interkulturelle Beziehungen in Afrika (19901999). Aus verschiedenen fachlichen Perspektiven werden Aspekte und Prmissen des gegenwrtigen Globalisierungsprozesses mit Bezug auf Lnder und Gesellschaften des afrikanischen Kontinents untersucht. Diese Beitrge werden durch regionale Fallstudien ergnzt, in denen lokale Gesellschaften und das konkret erfassbare Handeln von Individuen im Mittelpunkt stehen.
