Dabei orientiert sie sich an den universellen Menschenrechten, versucht die Gleichheit aller Menschen und Kulturen anzuerkennen. Verschiedenste Fachtermini werden mit dem Begriff in Beziehung gesetzt. So zum Beispiel Rassismus, Verfolgung, Asyl, Fremdenfeindlichkeit, Migration, Sitten, Brauchtum, Kunst, Musik, Tradition, multikulturelle Gesellschaft, Sprachfrderung, Erziehung, Akzeptanz und Integration. Aber auch aufklrerischer Begriffe wie Mndigkeit, Vernunft, gleiche Bildung fr alle, Toleranz, Chancengleichheit und Emanzipation steht im Zentrum interkultureller Erziehung. Der Terminus entwickelte sich aus der Auslnderpdagogik. Einsicht und Erfahrung zeigten, dass ehrenamtliche Bemhungen in Hausaufgabenhilfen" keine angemessene Hilfe zur Frderung und Integration auslndischer Kinder darstellte und fhrte zu Vernderungen in diesem Bereich. Zum einen kam es zu einer Erweiterung des Arbeitsfeldes sowohl im Kindergartensektor als auch im Umgang mit auslndischen Erwachsenen. Zum anderen kam man zu der Erkenntnis, dass Auslnderpdagogik keine Sonderpdagogik fr Auslnder sein knne. Vielmehr msse man sich auch an die Inlnder", also die Deutschen wenden, da viele Aufgaben nur im dialogischen Miteinander zu bewltigen wren. Da der Terminus Auslnderpdagogik" diese Inhalte nur ungengend und missverstndlich widerspiegelt, werden heute zunehmend die synonymen Begriffe interkulturelle Erziehung" und interkulturelle Pdagogik" verwendet (Sayler, 1997, Seite155).
