Aus der Sicht der Neuen Politischen konomie (Public Choice) werden internationale Organisationen untersucht, an denen Regierungen beteiligt sind. Im Unterschied zu den in der Literatur blichen Anstzen wird sowohl den Regierungen als auch den Vertretern der internationalen Organisationen die konsequente Verfolgung des Eigeninteresses unterstellt. Der Autor verbindet dabei die Anstze der auermarktlichen konomie, der Institutionenkonomik und der neoklassischen Theorie zu einer originellen Kombination. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit werden die komparativen Vor und Nachteile der internationalen Organisationen untersucht. Der zweite Teil konzentriert sich auf die Frage, wie die Effizienz solcher Organisationen ermittelt werden knnte. Im dritten Teil schlielich legt eine institutionelle Analyse internationaler Organisationen unter anderem anhand der FAO offen, wie Koalitionen von Mitgliedern und Managern die Hauptbeitragszahler und damit indirekt die Steuerzahler ausbeuten knnen. Die theoretischen Ausfhrungen werden an zahlreichen Stellen durch empirische Beispiele aus der Realitt illustriert. Das Buch wendet sich an Leser, die sich mit Fragen der internationalen Kooperation von Regierungen und Interessengruppen auseinandersetzen.
