In Wachstumsregionen wie Russland verzeichnet der Einzelhandel hohe Wachstumsraten. Das Einkommen der Bevlkerung steigt stetig an wodurch ein Nachholbedarf nach Konsumgtern geweckt wird. Vor allem westliche Handelskonzerne sind auf den Zug der Internationalisierung aufgesprungen. In Russland haben sich einpaar westliche Handelskonzerne bereits zu konkurrenzstarken Wettbewerbern entwickelt. Viele konnten ihre Umstze von Jahr zu Jahr verdoppeln. Selbst die Finanz und Wirtschaftskrise hlt die Unternehmen nicht davon ab weiter zu expandieren oder gar in den Markt einzusteigen. Eine Internationalisierung birgt aber auch Risiken mit denen Einzelhndler rechnen mssen. Viele unterschtzen die Anlaufkosten und bekommen Probleme bei brokratischen Angelegenheiten. Einige wenige mussten bereits die Heimreise antreten.
