Diese Arbeit untersucht die Zusammenhnge zwischen den Phnomenen Intertextualitt und Stereotyp zunchst theoretisch, indem versucht wird, eine partielle Synthese zwischen den engen und universellen Intertextualittsbegriffen zu entwickeln. ber das Konzept des kulturellen Gedchtnisses werden Parallele zwischen Intertext und Stereotyp aufgezeigt, um eine Untersuchung ihrer konstitutiven Funktion in der Reiseliteratur zu ermglichen, und zu erforschen, wie Stereotype ber intertextuelle Bezge in der Reiseliteratur wieder belebt, verfestigt und verbreitet werden. Schlielich wird die Prsenz von verfestigten Vorstellungen, die zum Teil auf die allerersten Irlandreiseberichte zurckgefhrt werden knnen, in vier literarischen IrlandReiseberichten deutscher Autoren nachgewiesen, und somit werden die Ergebnisse der theoretischen berlegungen besttigt. Diese Arbeit wurde mit der LohrmannMedaille der TU Dresden ausgezeichnet.
