The Charge of the Light Brigade has passed into history as one of the most glorious and costly exploits in the annals of the horse soldier. The almost simultaneous victory of the Heavy Brigade has, therefore, been overshadowed by this event. This book describes the organization, tactical doctrine and exact strength of the British Cavalry in the Crimea, and the events of 25th October 1854. The main chapters are devoted to descriptions of the exact appearance of the officers, NCOs and troopers of the regiments who rode in the two great charges of that day. Drawing upon dress regulations and the evidence of rare early photographs, and upon examination of surviving uniforms and equipment, this book attempts to recreate the finery of the regiment: the Dragoon Guards, the Dragoons, the Light Dragoons, the Hussars and the Lancers. John Mollo is a costume historian and film wardrobe consultant, his costumes appearing in the 1960s film 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'.
