Los firmes permeables estn dentro de los Sistemas Urbanos de Drenaje Sostenible (SUDS) y de la construccin sostenible. Para estudiar la capacidad de infiltracin en laboratorio, se ha desarrollado el ensayo de resistencia a la colmatacin con el Infiltrmetro Cntabro Fijo (ICF). Este ensayo es una herramienta eficaz para la caracterizacin de diferentes tipos de pavimentos permeables, exponindolos a un aporte conocido de agua, variando el estado de colmatacin y la inclinacin de la superficie. Adems, para estudiar la capacidad de infiltracin en campo, se ha desarrollado el Infiltrmetro Cntabro Porttil (ICP), el cual permite identificar claramente cualquier tipo de superficie, permeable o impermeable, as como su capacidad de infiltracin. Respecto a la degradacin de los materiales, se ha analizado la afeccin de los vertidos de hidrocarburos sobre mezclas bituminosas porosas fabricadas con distintos tipos de betunes. Por ltimo, se han construido modelos de firmes permeables en el Laboratorio (FIDICA), en el Campus de Santander de la Universidad de Cantabria y en el aparcamiento experimental de la Gua en Gijn.
