Product Description Christine Herman untersucht die Transformationen des taurischen Iphigeniemythos im 20. Jahrhundert. Dabei hat sie den deutschsprachigen Literaturraum im Blick. Als zentraler Prtext steht Goethes Drama Iphigenie auf Tauris, das die Autorin als Wendetext versteht, im Hintergrund der Studie. Mit Goethes Bearbeitung wird Iphigenie zur Ikone der Humanitt. Im Dialog mit Goethe und der Zeitgeschichte untersucht die Autorin vier zentrale Mythostransformationen. Diese stehen ihrerseits an Wendepunkten deutscher Zeitgeschichte: Gerhart Hauptmanns Iphigenie in Delphi (1941) und Iphigenie in Aulis (1944), Rainer Werner Fassbindes Iphigenie auf Tauris von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1968), Jochen Bergs Im Taurerland (1977) und Volker Brauns Iphigenie in Freiheit (1992). In diesen Texten gelingt die Herbeifhrung einer friedlichen Wende nicht mehr aus dem idealen Menschsein Iphigenies heraus. Die Transformationen des Mythos werden so zu Manifesten der Humanittsskepsis. Ein Paradigmenwechsel wird greifbar, der sich in der zweiten Hlfte des 20. Jahrhunderts in der literarischen Rezeption von Goethes Iphigenie auf Tauris vollzogen hatte.Herman erarbeitet dieses Ergebnis mit Hilfe forcierter Interdisziplinaritt, indem sie zeitgeschichtliche Faktoren als interkontextuelle Referenzpunkte stark macht. About the Author Christine Hermann (1977) studierte Germanistik und Geschichtswissenschaft in Magdeburg, Florenz und Gttingen, arbeitete an der Universitt Freiburg und ist momentan im Schuldienst ttig.
