About the AuthorWilliam Butler Yeats (18651939) was a poet, writer, and one of the mainstays of the British and Irish literary scenes. In 1923 he became the first Irishman awarded the Nobel Prize. He spent two terms serving as a senator in Ireland and, as an Irish nationalist, he spent a brieftime in the Irish Republican Brotherhood. He distanced himself from the movement before the Easter Rising of 1916, choosing instead to focus on his literary pursuits. This collection is edited by Yeats, bringing together tales and poetry by Lady Wilde, Douglas Hyde, William Allingham, Samuel Ferguson, Letitia Maclintock, T. Crofton Croker, William Carleton and Edward Walsh, among others.Product DescriptionThis deluxe hardback edition presents W. B. Yeat's enthralling tales from Ireland's oral history, with delightful illustrations, gilded page edges and a striking goldembossed cover design. One of Ireland's greatest writers, the Nobelprize winner Yeats was fascinated by the myths and folklore of his native country. This passion culminated in the formation of this classic anthology which he compiled and introduced, bringing together Irish folk tales and poetry by a variety of folklorists, storytellers, poets and historians, among them Lady Wilde, the mother of Oscar Wilde.Within these pages, you'll discover tales of greedy sons who get their comeuppance, canny priests, evil witches and demons alongside legends of heroic kings, giants and, of course, the good folk themselves the fairies, the leprechauns and the cluricauns. By turns charming and scary, these are yarns that have passed down through generations and which are still as entertaining and magical as when they were first recalled. This clothlook hardback edition features beautiful illustrations, ivory pages and patterned endpapers, making a wonderful gift or keepsake for any literature lover.ABOUT THE SERIES: The Arcturus Gilded Classics series presents luxury gift editions of classics works, printed on opulent ivory paper, featuring hardcover Wibilin binding, foilembossed cover designs, beautifully designed endpapers and gilded page edges.
