Mr. Schlegel has abstracted all notices of marriages, births, deaths, separations, estate settlements, and persons emigrating to North America which appeared in the "Londonderry Journal" between 1772 and 1784. While marriage notices predominate, researchers will also encounter references to births, deaths, and separations, estate settlements, and notices of persons emigrating to North America. Since many of the notices in the Journal make no mention of relationships but give useful clues to where people lived in Ireland, Mr. Schlegel has gathered those references into a separate appendix. All told, this fully indexed publication identifies some 2,000 Irish men and women. This book should be especially useful to those interested in tracing 18thcentury ScotchIrish ancestors, since the largest proportion of emigrants from Ireland prior to the American Revolution came from Northern Ireland, embarking as so many of them did from the port of Londonderry.
