Product Description Only officially coming to a close in 1989, the Spanish Inquisition has a reputation for being, in a phrase, quietly misunderstood. Historically, it encapsulated a period marked by forced conversion of Jews and the persecution of heretics and the Moslems living in Spain (in fact, for 800 years), and presently, it is no more than an educational chapter read, recited and forgotten. Jaime De Soussa has published a novel, Isabella, which shines new light on this oftenimpersonal account of a fascinating time in Spanish culture and world history. Based on De Soussas own research, covering documents hidden for up to 500 years, Isabella springs forth as an authentic epic, revolutionizing our understanding (or lack there of) of Ferdinand and Isabella, named the Catholic Kings. De Soussa prides himself on the factual basis of his life work Isabella, where he delves deep into the personas and the culture that surrounded the King and Queen and uncovers such details as their Jewish ancestry, the origins of antiSemitism in Europe with the beginning of the Diaspora in Spain (1492), and the contemporaneous first voyage of Christopher Columbus to the Americas for the first time. Not surprisingly, De Soussas collection of facts is in opposition to the official history of Spain but it is a history contrived by the monarchy under the dictates of the church and the Inquisition Holy Office. About the Author Born into an old Spanish Aristocratic family with ancestors stretching back to long before the Inquisition, Jaime De Soussa was a government official and a diplomat all his life. Through these positions he attained access to the Inquisitions secret archives, the contents of which he has now introduced in his Englishlanguage novel Isabella.
