Robert Irwin delves deep into the cultures of the Islamic world to survey the exquisite arts of painting, architecture, porcelain, enamel, manuscript illumination, metalwork, calligraphy, textiles, and more. Including 217 illustrations, 148 in full color, the book covers the earliest foundations of Islam through the brilliant high point of the 17th century.

I found this book to be quite informative, but some sections felt overwhelming with details. While it’s great for scholars, casual readers might struggle a bit. Still, the perspectives on architecture were eye-opening, so I’m glad I gave it a shot.

A fascinating perspective on Islamic art
This book dives deep into the interplay between art and architecture in the Islamic world. I particularly enjoyed the literary connections that the author makes, offering a richer understanding. The illustrations are beautiful, making it a perfect coffee table book as well!

Came damaged, but worth the read
I was disappointed when the book arrived with a dent on the cover. However, once I started reading, I was captivated by the insights on Islamic art and its influence on literature. Just wish the shipping had been better!
