In the present study, two psychrophilic bacteria were isolated and characterized from sea water sample collected from Spitzbergen in the Arctic. The psychrophilic strictly anaerobic Ilyobacter psychrophilus sp. nov. and the psychrophilic aerobic bacterium Shewanella arctica sp. nov.. Two industrial relevant enzymes were cloned and characterized from the new isolated bacterium Shewanella arctica sp. nov.. A type I pullulanase and a subtilisinlike serine protease.
