Der englische Philosoph Thomas Hobbes (15881679) wrde nicht nur die Mglichkeit hierzu bejahen, sondern ausschlielich egoistische Motive fr die uerliche Selbstlosigkeit Mutter Theresas verantwortlich machen. Hobbes hielte die Hilfsbereitschaft Mutter Theresas zwar bestimmt ntzlich fr die Geholfenen, aber letztlich doch auch ntzlich fr die Helferin selbst. Der Philosoph hlt einen intrinsisch motivierten Altruismus fr eine Illusion. Nach Hobbes liegt auch dem in seiner Konsequenz moralisch richtigen Verhalten immer ein egoistisches Motiv zugrunde.
