Ein kurzer Blick auf die Geschichte lsst keine Zweifel an der Tatsache, dass der Mensch zu Grausamkeiten fhig ist, die an moralischer Verwerflichkeit schwer zu berbieten sind: Von den grausamen Spielen im Circus Maximus ber die Inquisition bis hin zur Endlsung der Nationalsozialisten Folter, Mord und Krieg durchziehen die Menschheitsgeschichte wie ein roter Faden. Jngste Ereignisse, wie z.B. die Anschlge in Norwegen am 22.08.2011 , werfen erneut die anthropologische Frage auf, ob der Mensch vom Wesen her, also radikal (lat. radix, radicis=die Wurzel) bse ist. Diese Frage hat Kant in seiner Religionsschrift aus dem Jahr 1793 Die Religion innerhalb der Grenzen der bloen Vernunft' behandelt. Der Zweck dieser Schrift besteht grundstzlich darin, zu zeigen, dass zum einen Moralbegrndungen auch ohne einen Rekurs auf Religion mglich sind. Zum anderen beschftigt er sich im ersten Stck von insgesamt vier Stcken von RbV mit der Frage, ob die Natur des Menschen bse ist. In den Kapiteln I und II des ersten Stcks von RbV beginnt Kant seine Untersuchung mit einer anthropologischanalytischen Beschreibung der Anlage zum Guten sowie mit der des Hangs zum Bsen des Menschen. Die anthropologischanalytische Beschreibung geht in III in eine apriorische Analyse ber, in der Kant feststellt, dass der Mensch von Natur aus, also radikal' bse ist. Das erste Stck von RbV schliet mit Kapitel IV, in dem Kant bestimmt, wo der Ursprung des Bsen zu suchen ist: Befindet er sich in der Vernunft (intelligible Welt) oder in der Zeit (materielle Welt)?
