Jazz scales will develop the skills required in playing jazz. This title introduces patterns characteristic of the idiom, such as modes, the blues scale and the minor pentatonic. It explores these on roots and in key centres commonly found in jazz. Regular and flexible practice of these forms, and using them as the basis for improvisation, will give you fluency and technical control, making your playing sound effortless. As an accompaniment to the Board's jazz clarinet syllabus, this book sets out the scales by Level/Grade and gives a table of recommended speeds. It covers playing scales in both swing and straight 8s, and provides details of what the examiner will be looking for in your playing.
