Fr lange Zeit waren diese beiden im Jahr 1910 erschienenen Bnde Standart im gesamten Schiffbau. Es gibt keine schiffbaulichen Aspekte, die nicht ausfhrlich behandelt werden. Das Hilfsbuch sollte vornehmlich dem Schiffbauingenieur das mit Zeit und Mhe verbundene Nachschlagen alter Hefte und Zusammenstellungen, welche er bei der sprlichen und schwer zugnglichen einheimischen Fachliteratur bislang kaum entbehren konnte, zu ersparen; Studierenden sollte es zahlreiches Material zur Ausfhrung von bungsentwrfen bieten und andererseits auch Konstrukteuren von Schiffsmaschinen, Offizieren der Kriegs und Handelsmarine, Reedern, Freunden des Wassersports und anderen dem Schiffbau nahe stehenden Personen zur schnellen Beantwortung einer groen Zahl sich nicht selten in den Vordergrund drngender Fragen ntzlich und von Wert sein.
