When it began to be apparent that A Course in Miracles was spreading rapidly, even to other countries, I felt keenly the need to have an accurate account of its origin available to the many who would eyentually want to know. It seemed likely that myths might circulate, and that even Helen might be made into some sort of cult heroine. I urged that an accurate history be assembled while memories were still fresh, and that the writing be done by someone close to the events, but not too close. Bob Skutch, I felt, was the ideal candidate. He had watched at least the latter portion of the story unfold, he knew all the characters personally and they were available to him for interviews; thus he could tell the story with fidelity concerning the people and events involved; furthermore, he had done some previous professional writing. Needless to say, when asked he agreed. While he may not have always felt thankful for my suggestion, nevertheless he was gracious enough to invite me to write this foreword. I am grateful for the honor because I believe A Course in Miracles will one day be much more widely appreciated, as will the story of its remarkable genesis. Willis W.
