Dietmar Loch untersucht das Verhltnis zwischen der Lebenswelt sozial ausgegrenzter Jugendlicher nordafrikanischer Herkunft und den Institutionen der franzsischen Stadtpolitik in einer banlieue der Metropole Lyon. Die ethnographisch angelegte Fallstudie zeigt, dass die marginalisierten Quartiere nicht nur Orte von Zerfall und Gewalt sind. Es wird deutlich, wo die Chancen und Grenzen von Gruppensolidaritten, Selbstorganisation und politischer Teilhabe in diesen stdtischen Laboratorien liegen. Der lebensweltliche Eigensinn und der politische Widerspruch der sich in Vereinen zusammenschlieenden und nach sozialer Anerkennung strebenden Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt.
