Product DescriptionKarel Capek (18901938), Schriftsteller, Dramatiker, Kritiker und Journalist in einer Person, gehrt zu den wichtigsten und bekanntesten Reprsentanten der literarischen Moderne Osteuropas. Weniger bekannt ist hingegen die philosophische Dimension seines facettenreichen uvres. Capek studierte Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte in Berlin (191011), Paris und Prag. Aus einer whrend der Studienzeit verfaten Arbeit zum amerikanischen Pragmatismus entstand 1918 und spter 1925 in der zweiten und ergnzten Auflage die philosophische Abhandlung Pragmatismus oder die Philosophie des praktischen Lebens". Diese Verffentlichung fhrte dazu, dass Capek im tschechischen Kulturleben zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht nur als Schriftsteller, sondern gleichermaen als Philosoph wahrgenommen wurde. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Untersuchung ist es, im Wege der Rekonstruktion der Hauptgedanken in Capeks philosophischer Abhandlung die Philosophie und Literaturwissenschaft miteinander zu verknpfen. Der Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist Capeks Auseinandersetzung mit den wichtigsten Reprsentanten des klassischen Pragmatismus, den Philosophen William James und John Dewey. Im Unterschied zu vergleichbaren Versuchen geht es hier nicht um eine Zusammenfassung der im Capeks Werk vorfindbaren Philosopheme, sondern um die Analyse der impliziten Philosophie des Pragmatismus auf der narrativen Ebene. Das Verhltnis von Poetik und Philosophie stellt sich in den untersuchten Werken unterschiedlich dar. Whrend der Bezug zum Pragmatismus in Gottesmarter" durch allegorische und intertextuelle Verfahren hergestellt wird, entsteht er in den Erzhlungen aus der einen und der anderen Tasche" indirekt: Die Philosophie kommt hier als Inspirationsquelle fr Motiventwicklungen sowie Neuinterpretationen traditioneller Gattungen wie der Detektivgeschichte zum Tragen.
