Jahrhundert. Karl Kraus, dem von Zeitgenossen ebenso geliebten wie als 'Fackelkraus' geschmhten 'Alleinredakteur' der Zeitschrift 'Die Fackel' (erschienen von 1899 bis 1936) werden Verdienste vor allem im Bereich der Zeitsatire zugebilligt, ebenso in Bezug auf sein 'Marstheater'Stck 'Die letzten Tage der Menschheit'. Es zeichnet sich durch eine annhernde Unauffhrbarkeit aus und steht doch fr eben jene Theatersthetik, die Karl Kraus khn und von groer berzeugung getragen den groen Theaterentwrfen zwischen Naturalismus, Expressionismus und Regietheater entgegenstellte, dem 'Theater der Dichtung'. Kraus' Theaterentwurf, jeder 'Magie' der Bilder, wie sie Max Reinhardt verstand, abhold, zeugt von einem gnzlich anderen Theater und Sprachverstndnis. Die sehr unterschiedlichen Auffassungen zweier Menschen, die fast gleichaltrig, aus einem hnlichen Kulturkreis stammend, einst einmal sogar auf der selben Wiener Vorstadtbhne Theater spielten, werden einer Untersuchung unterzogen. Karl Kraus beschftigte sich dezidiert mit Kulturentwicklungen seiner Zeit, legte sehr klar seine Positionen dar und grenzte sich nicht selten polemisch gegenber anderen sthetischen und ethischen Strmungen ab. In weit ber 200 Belegstellen geht Kraus in seinen Schriften auf Max Reinhardt als Privatmann, Unternehmer und Knstler ein.
