Literarisch nicht immer gelungen und in der Darstellung des Islam nicht frei von zeitgenssischen Vorurteilen, erwecken seine eindringlichen Schilderungen der menschenverachtenden Sklavenjger und ihrer schwarzen Opfer doch auch heute noch Zorn und Mitleid.
