Eine Untersuchung des Mathematikums, eines Mathematikmuseums, zeigt beispielhaft, wie Popularisierung umgesetzt werden kann und welche Erfolge dabei erzielt werden. Der Augenmerk liegt auf der Vermittlung von globalen Ideen. Diese sind weniger mit konkreten Inhalten als mit Emotionen verknpft, welche sich positiv auf das Lernen in formellen Kontexten auswirken knnen. Damit kann ein Museumbesuch nicht unbedingt Wissen vermitteln, aber die Basis fr fruchtbareres Lernen legen. Durchaus umzusetzende Zielsetzungen wren, die Wertschtzung fr den Gegenstand der Popularisierung zu steigern sowie die Einstellungen zu diesem zu ndern. Das persnliche Konzept dessen, was Mathematik ist, kann als Indiz fr mathematisches Denken dienen, und der Wandel solcher Konzepte ist, was ein Science Center realistischerweise erreichen kann. Das Mathematikum als Mitmachmuseum geht einen neuen Weg. Inwiefern es gelingt, die Sicht der Besucher auf die Mathematik zu ndern, wurde mittels einer quantitativen Umfrage untersucht, wobei Hinweise auf einen positiven Einfluss gefunden werden konnten.
