Die Vielseitigkeit und Komplexitt von Klaus Manns Beziehung zu Frankreich wird anhand seiner Frankreicherfahrungen und der Frankreichbilder in seinem literarischen Werk rekonstruiert, auch unter dem Gesichtspunkt seiner Homosexualitt, die im Ergebnis als bedeutendste Motivation seiner Hinwendung nach Frankreich gewertet wird. So werden Klaus Manns Selbstbild, sein Engagement gegen den Faschismus und sein literarisches, essayistisches und autobiographisches Werk vor dem Hintergrund seiner Beziehung zu Frankreich in einem neuen Licht gesehen.
