Doch nicht zwingend, so zeigt sich, muss eine solche Behinderung zum Dreh und Angelpunkt des Lebens werden. Trotz ihrer Ertaubung ist es den hier vorgestellten Menschen gelungen, die Anforderungen an ihre soziale Rolle, an Studium und Beruf zu erfllen. About the Author Maryanne Becker, Jahrgang 1952, Sozialwissenschaftlerin und Audiotherapeutin, lebt in Berlin. Ihren pltzlichen Hrverlust im Jahr 1997 und die anschlieende Versorgung mit CochleaImplantaten (elektronischen Innenohrprothesen) begriff sie nach einer Zeit des Trauerns als neue Herausforderung. Neben Sach bzw. Fachverffentlichungen schreibt sie Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten. Sie arbeitet als Audiotherapeutin an einer groen Berliner Klinik und engagiert sich ehrenamtlich fr Menschen mit Hrproblemen.
