Als Reaktion auf die erste PISAStudie im Jahre 2002, bei der das bislang nahezu unangetastete deutsche Bildungssystem im internationalen Vergleich unterdurchschnittlich abschnitt, wurden Forderungen nach alternativen Unterrichtsformen wie dem jahrgangsbergreifenen Lernen laut. Obwohl sich diese Organisationsform gerade im Hinblick auf die Sozialkompetenzen der Schler und Schlerinnen bereits bewhrt hat, bleibt die Frage nach dem Leistungsstand altersgemischt unterrichteter Kinder. Im Hinblick auf die bereits in Grundschulen angestrebte Mehrsprachigkeit soll dieser Frage speziell fr den Bereich Englisch nachgegangen werden, da dies bislang kaum bis unzureichend erforscht ist.
