Webers spter angesichts der Zustnde in Deutschland nach dem ersten Weltkrieg in den Vortrgen 'Wissenschaft als Beruf' und 'Politik als Beruf' (beide 1919) geuerten Mahnungen, dieses Gehuse knne nicht durch reine Gesinnung oder eine professorale "Kathederprophetie" (1919/73: 612) berwunden werden, haben diesen wesentlich (industrie)gesellschaftskriti schen Aspekt seines Werkes gelegentlich (und wohl nicht immer ganz unab sichtlich) bersehen lassen. Daher bahnt sich neuerdings eine Revision in der Rezeption speziell seiner Rationalisierungstheorie an. Vgl. unten Anm. 7880.
