Im Zeitalter der Informationsgesellschaft und zahlreicher Neuentwicklungen im Hard und Softwarebereich gewinnen dabei mit Hilfe elektronischer Datenverarbeitung operierende Warenwirtschaftssysteme immer mehr an Bedeutung. Sie bieten zunehmend lckenlose Informationen ber die Kernttigkeit eines Handelsbetriebes und werden mit anderen Systemen zum geschlossenen Informationssystem integriert. Diese Integration wird sowohl innerhalb eines Unternehmens (z.B. durch Verknpfung mit Buchhaltungs und Personalinformationssystemen) als auch zwischen verschiedenen Unternehmen in Form stufenbergreifender Warenwirtschaftssysteme vorangetrieben. Die Frage, inwieweit das Warenwirtschaftssystem die betrieblichen Ablufe effizienter gestalten kann, ist neben Standort, Sortiment und Personal zum strategischen Wettbewerbsfaktor geworden. Vor diesem Hintergrund der Bedeutung eines Warenwirtschaftssystems steht die Handelsagentur Ream vor der Aufgabe, ihr derzeitiges System abzulsen. In diesem Zusammenhang wurde auf eine bestehende Lsung zurckgegriffen, die an die Besonderheiten der Handelsagentur Ream angepat werden mu. Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es deshalb sein, die wichtigsten Inhalte der Anpassung aus den Unternehmensspezifika abzuleiten und konzeptionell darzustellen. Dabei soll am Beginn der Begriff des Warenwirtschaftssystems definiert und ein berblick ber verschiedene Warenwirtschaftssysteme gegeben werden.
