Bei der vorliegenden Forschungsarbeit handelt es sich um eine empirische Untersuchung von Zusammenhngen zwischen psychosozialen Konstrukten und der Internetnutzung in kulturell unterschiedlichen Lndern. Insbesondere wird der Einfluss von Kontrollerwartung, die Einstellung zu Individualismus sowie Kollektivismus und die computerbezogenen Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung untersucht. Welche Internetangebote knnten dem Bedarf der Internetnutzer in Hinblick auf ihren sozialen und kulturellen Kontext am ehesten gerecht werden? Welche Medienangebote knnten einer Annherung zwischen dem arabischen und westeuropischen Raum frderlich sein und Vorurteile abbauen? Bei der Entwicklung der Hypothesen und Forschungsfragen wurde davon ausgegangen, dass sich syrische und sterreichische Testpersonen in allen psychosozialen Konstrukten unterscheiden. Das Internetnutzungsverhalten sowie die psychosozialen Dispositionen weisen jedoch in beiden Lndern hnliche Merkmalsausprgungen auf. Nur die Medienkompetenz scheint bei sterreichischen Studenten hher zu sein. In Syrien dient das Internet als Druckausgleich fr mangelnde Migrationsmglichkeiten in der realen Welt.
