Estudiar el espacio simbolizado es tarea de la geografa desde 1970. Al retomar los planteamientos humansticos, la nueva geografa cultural logra un acercamiento entre los sujetos que se estudian, sus emociones, sus valoraciones y su espacio fsico. Dentro de esta corriente surge el concepto de espacio vivido con sus dos acepciones, el espacio tangible y el subjetivado. Es de inters de esta investigacin rescatar cmo han vivido los indgenas mixtecos de Guerrero la ciudad de Tijuana, en la cual radican desde la dcada de 1980. Se considera sus prcticas y representaciones dentro y fuera de Valle verde, su espacio inmediato de vida, de la misma forma se refiere a la influencia que ejerce la propia ciudad en sus estrategias para preservar su organizacin social y cultural, manifestada por ejemplo en el sistema de cargos, aspectos que sern referenciales para entender sus formas de vivir y de representarse sus espacios vividos (espacios de vida y representaciones).
