Esta obra presenta una aproximacin crtica al papel exclusivo que tiene el libro de texto en la formacin inicial del docente de ingls. Se muestra que dicho papel se fundamenta en una concepcin educativa tradicional que se apoya en los principios de una didctica parametral en donde, de manera acrtica, el libro de texto constituye el referente principal y se usa como gua para la enseanza de una lengua extranjera. En contraposicin a lo anterior, se propone introducir un nuevo paradigma en la formacin de los docentes de lengua extranjera, cuyo fundamento radica en los principios propios de la didctica no parametral, que justifica el descentramiento del libro de texto y la integracin de otras formas de enseanza ms flexibles y significativas.
